Series: Go/Joshua
Joshua 4: 1-9
After passing through the Jordan River, God commanded Joshua to order 12 men from the 12 tribes of Israel to take 12 stones from the place the priests held the ark. The men carried the 12 stones to their camp in Gigal, on the east border of Jericho.
The 12 men were also ordered to place 12 large stones in the Jordan River. The stones were piled high so that it could be seen above low waters and discernible as high waters passed by.
The 12 stones represented the 12 tribes, as servants of God taking possession of Canaan as their own. The 12 stones in the Jordan River and those in Gilgal were also a sign and memorial to all the people of the earth of God’s power and goodness.
We are often in a hurry to get out of our Jordans (where I am often complaining or impatient or afraid – or all three) and arrive at our Canaan where we anticipate we will praise and worship God. But, reading Joshua, I am learning that I should praise and worship God where I am, in the midst of my Jordan.
My responses (stones) to my Jordans reflect the quality of my faith and are a testimony of God in my life. People see God’s glory in our stones and draws them to experience for themselves the Good News of salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
GO and place your stones.
